Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Scribly ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our website, services, and applications (collectively, the "Service"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us. When you create an account using an email address and password, or when you sign in using your Google or Apple account (including via Apple's Private Email Relay service), we collect your name and email address. This information is used to facilitate account creation, authentication, and security communications. We do not require or collect your phone number. We also automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with the Service, including IP address, browser type, operating system, usage data, and cookies. Additionally, we may collect information from third-party services if you choose to connect your account with such services.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve the Service, process transactions, send you technical notices and support messages, respond to your comments and questions, communicate with you about products and services that may be of interest to you, monitor and analyze trends and usage, detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and personalize your experience. We may also use your information for other purposes with your consent or as required by law. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we strictly do not use any information collected via Google APIs or Sign in with Apple for advertising or cross-app tracking purposes. Our use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information collected via Sign in with Apple is used solely to create, maintain, and authenticate your account.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information with service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, and customer support. We may also share information if required by law, to protect our rights or property, in connection with a business transfer, or with your consent. We may share aggregated or anonymized information that cannot be used to identify you individually.

5. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption, secure servers, access controls, and regular security assessments. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

6. Data Retention and Your Rights

We retain your personal information, including data collected via Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In, only for as long as is necessary to provide the Service to you, maintain your account, and for legitimate business purposes, such as complying with our legal obligations, resolving disputes, and enforcing our agreements. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies. Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your information, the right to data portability, and the right to object to processing. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise these rights, or to request the deletion of your data, please contact us using the information provided in the Contact Us section. We will respond to your request in accordance with applicable law.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on the Service and hold certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data that may include an anonymous unique identifier. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some portions of our Service. We also use web beacons, pixels, and other tracking technologies to collect information about your interactions with the Service.

8. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information from our servers.

9. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. If you are located outside our country and choose to provide information to us, please note that we transfer the data, including personal information, to our country and process it there. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to our facilities and those third parties with whom we share it as described in this policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We may also notify you via email or through a prominent notice on our Service. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
